Linda OtteWhat’s Cooking?

Well here it is - my last article. What a thrill it has been for Ken and I these past two years. We have traveled as much as we possibly could. We have had the privilege of meeting wonderful people from all across the State. We have shared with you in the good times and bad. We have eaten your regional cooking from pickles to BBQ, crawfish to sauerkraut. We have danced until dawn. We have had to say good-bye to some wonderful knights and friends. Being the wife of the State Deputy has given me experiences I could only have imagined.
Thank you ladies for all your recipes - both the ones that got printed in the Texas Knight and the ones that got printed in the Centennial Cookbook. We will always have these recipes to remember our friends by. Thank you everyone for your strong support of “Raising funds for retired priests and sisters.” This project has reached the hearts of so many of you! It has also far surpassed any previous state ladies project. It has been my honor and privilege to help raise the funds for this worthwhile cause. The total raised to date for our project is $49,354.18. The cookbooks have brought a profit of $3,706.97. I am guessing we have close to 150 cookbooks that are out there that have not been paid for, that would add an additional $1,500.00. Would everyone who has not turned in their money for the books they took, please have the money to me by the end of June? You can send your checks to the KofC State Office - 6633 HWY 290 E Suite #204 –Austin, Tx 78723-1156 c/o State Ladies Project. We do have a few books left to sell, please contact the state office and they will let me know how many you want to order. The money for this year will go out to the bishops the first part of July. This project will end on June 30th and Lorraine Hanus, the new State Deputy’s wife, will be starting her new project as of July 1st. Please support Lorraine’s new project. Thank you, thank you everyone: councils, assemblies, auxiliaries, squires and individuals. May you be blessed for your generosity and willingness to help make a difference.
Ladies, we still have over three weeks left in this fraternal year. It’s not too late to go out and recruit a new member for the Knights of Columbus. You have always been part of the great work of the Knights; here is one more opportunity to demonstrate that: “Ladies can make a difference too!”
Thanks to everyone for your warm hospitality when Ken and I came to visit. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. Thanks for the prayers we felt when our family really needed them. Thank you mostly for caring about the Knights of Columbus and wanting to reach out and make Father McGivney’s dream a reality here in Texas.
I look forward to seeing you all again in the months to come.
Love,
Linda

GREAT NEWS!

Great News….the ladies in Texas have recruited 42 Knights so far this year. (These are the ones that I’m aware of!) Here are the names of ladies who have made a difference in membership. Your name can be added to this list. Recruit a member and notify our State Membership Director Javier S. Martinez at 6200 Savoy, Suite 510, Houston, Texas 77036. You will receive a Lone Star Ranger pin and a State Membership certificate signed by our State Deputy Ken Otte. I would love to see 100 names of women who have recruited at least one Knight in this, the 100th year of our Texas State Council. You can do it! Recruit now. There are only two months left to be recognized for your recruitment efforts.

Here is an excerpt from a letter received from our top recruiter, Marian Reyes, from newly formed Council 13460 at San Francisco Javier parish in Creedmore, Texas: “This was a lot of fun and I would really like to encourage more ladies to take an active role in their parishes to recruit.” Her husband, Richard Reyes, is the newly elected Grand Knight. Way to go Reyes family, and good luck to one of our newest councils!

Cookbooks

All proceeds go to the State Ladies Project: “Raising Funds for Retired Priests and Sisters”
I will have between 300 and 400 cookbooks to sell at our State Convention in Corpus Christi. This will be the last chance to purchase our Centennial Cookbook. When they’re gone, they’re gone. The books sell for $10.00 each. As a result of the popularity of the cookbook, we plan to sell over 1,000 copies.

The Year in Retrospect

Thanks to all of you for your support of the State Ladies Project over the past two years. I couldn’t be happier with the success of the project and the sales of our cookbooks.
Our goal for this year is $30,000.00. If we sell all of our cookbooks, together with donations received to date, we will be close to collecting $23,000.00 for the year. With the $26,000 raised last year, we are looking at a two-year total of approximately $49,000. That’s a great amount of charity and generosity in support of our retired priests and sisters! Thank you all once again. Of course $50,000 is a much sweeter number that has a very nice ring to it. It wouldn’t take much to achieve that goal. Any donations from councils, assemblies, circles or individuals would be greatly appreciated.
State Convention – Corpus Christi, Texas May 13, 14, 15 and 16
The State Officers, Directors and ladies met with the convention committee on April 16 and 17. Everything appears to be coming along just fine. Minnie Pena is our convention
Ladies Activities Chairperson. Minnie and her wonderful team of ladies from Corpus Christi are working very hard to make sure we all have a very enjoyable time. Ken and I look forward to seeing you at our 100th Anniversary Celebration in Corpus Christi in a few short weeks!
May God bless you and yours.

Linda
