Ask
the Advocate
Q. Can counsel officers serve as officers of a home association?
A. The answer is found in the bylaws of the home association. The home
association is a seperate corporation set up by an attorney or accountant.
Seperate bylaws are drawn up which set forth the rules under which
this corporation will operate. Many home associations do set out
that the officers of the home association are the same as the council
officers but many do not. Check with your bylaws and remember to
review them ever few years to see if they need to be updated.
Q. Can a grand knight spend money without a vote of the council?
A. Yes. Our bylaws provide that a grand knight may spend up to $200.00
with the approval of the trustees without a council vote. I would recommend
that this not be abused and any funds spent should be reported to the
council. In fact, during the FS and treasurer report each council meeting,
the issueing of the warrant and the check being drafted will need to
be reported. Note: This amount was increased to $500 at the Supreme
Convention in Washington, D.C., stay tuned for the effective date to
be published.
