councils, assemblies, and circles of our Order have reported raising and
disbursing nearly $2.5 million to approximately 2,400 seminarians and
postulants during Year 2003 through the Order's Refund Support Vocations
Program (RSVP).

A DREAM BECOMES A REALITY
Mansfield

After many years of dreaming; a statue to the “Unborn Child” became a reality for Mansfield’s Council 7736. On March 28, 2004 they unveiled a statue of the Holy Family which was crafted of white marble in Italy and flown in for the ceremony. A plaque Stating “You will never be forgotten” is attached to the black granite base and is surrounded by a cross-made with 150 bricks, which were bought by parishioners assuring that the memorial will be remembered. The memorial is directly in front of St Jude’s Church.

Russ Hart who spoke at the dedication spearheaded this project. The dedication was presided over by Terry Mosher, Grand Knight and Deacon Richard Sojak representing Bishop Delaney. State Secretary Leo Hanus representing the Texas State Council congratulated the Council on this accomplishment. . 4th Degree Honor Guard members, led by Color Corps Commander Pat Henz and Assistant Commander Robert Hernandez stood for the Mass and Dedication. The Catholic Women of St Jude’s Parish sponsored a reception following the ceremony.

Knights of Columbus at Chrism Mass Social Hour at City Centre of San Fernando

The chapter provided the bar on the second floor of the newly remodeled City Centre, at San Fernando Cathedral, social hour prior to the annual Chrism Mass. The Mass is used to bless the oils used throughout the year during the different sacraments and rites of the Catholic Church. The mass celebrates the mystery of the anointing, ("oil of gladness" (Ps 44: 8) which marks the life of every Christian, from the day of his Baptism.
David Garcia, rector of San Fernando, had asked Council 4140 for assistance. The chapter sponsored the bar while the council provided the manpower and peripherals of a well stocked bar i.e., napkins, bartenders, stirrers, ice, set up buckets, ice chest, vest and bow ties for bartenders, ice thongs, water pitchers, trash bag, wine bucket, cut limes, etc.
Yarlen Floral Decorations, donated linen and skirts for two tables, the four bartenders, Al Garza, Gene Mireles, Jerry Janecka and Rudy Escamilla in black slacks, white shirt and black bow tie and vests represented Council 4140 and the Chapter.
Special thanks to Steve Wall, GK Council 8065, for a case of red wine, Robert Von Lehmden, Chapter Vice President, for soft drinks, Mike Morrison District Deputy 38 for liquor, Assembly 2102 for case of white wine, Don Free, of Boerne Council, for liquor.
One monsignor declared the affair was absolutely smashing and first rate! Father David Garcia, rector of San Fernando, has already put in a request that the Chapter be the host again for next year’s Mass. Grand Knight Rudy Escamilla, Council 4140, responded that the Knights of Columbus have always supporting our priests and will do so again. Attending the social were many priests from out of town, from Pleasanton, Jourdanton, Poteet, etc., and San Antonio parishes as well. Our Most Reverend Archbishop, Patrick F. Flores, D.D., making his last appearance for this Mass, stayed for the entire social as did our two Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese, Most Reverends Thomas J. Flanagan, D.D. and Patrick J. Zurek, D.D. The San Antonio Chapter of the Knights of Columbus scored a good public relations coup in this important day for all priests to gather at the heart of the Archdiocese, in the oldest cathedral in the Americas, to consecrate the blessed oils used hroughout the year.
