Announcing State Wide Blood Drive
Texas State Council announced the Billy Quintanilla Blood
Drive. All councils are encouraged to have as many blood drives throughout
the fraternal year and those councils with the highest percentage will
receive recognition. Byron Richard from the Beaumont diocese has been
named Chair and can be contacted at (409)786-3682 or email: brichard@earthlink.net.

My Brother Knights and Ladies
By Ken Otte, Immediate Past State Deputy
5016 WOW!
The final numbers are in. YOU DID IT! Congratulations to the Texas State
Family. You accepted our challenge to be the best that we could be
in our 100th Anniversary Year. Working as a TEAM, you did exactly that.
For years we’ve talked about:
TEXAS HAS NOT HAD ITS BEST YEAR YET.
I’m proud to tell you, that because of your cooperation and dedicated
efforts,
TEXAS HAS HAD ITS BEST YEAR YET!
YES, THAT MEANS BEST YEAR EVER!!!!
INTAKE: 5,016 195 members more than previous best year
RETENTION: 1,316 107 losses fewer than previous best year
NET GAIN: 3,700 452 members more than previous best year
Brothers, this was truly a team effort. I want to thank our Membership
Team headed up by State Membership Director Javier Martinez, but I also
want to thank all of our Brother Knights and Ladies across our State
who accepted our challenge to recruit “One More Knight.”
While
we won the Net Gain and Percentage Gain competition against other jurisdictions
in Division I, we finished third in the Circle of Honor
behind Division VI jurisdictions Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.
This year we started 12 new councils and reactivated 8 dormant councils
for a total of 20. The following is a recap of those efforts:

80,000th MEMBER INITIATED
The only problem is, I haven’t been told who that member is. I’m
told that I should find out who that member is, and receive a copy of
his Form 100, next Tuesday. At that time we’ll know his council
number and proposer also. Our final membership in Texas, which will be
our starting membership July 1, is 80,175.
STATE CHARITIES
While I don’t have the exact numbers yet, the Texas State Charities
Team, under the leadership of State Charities Director Terry Simonton,
raised enough money to exceed the State Charities goal for the SECOND
YEAR IN A ROW! The Fort Worth Diocese worked late into the night last
evening and collected enough money to meet their goal. Once again four
dioceses exceeded their goal: SAN ANTONIO (2 years in a row), DALLAS
(1st year), TYLER (11 years in row) and FORT WORTH (10 years in row).
Again congratulations to our State Charities Team, and thanks to all
of our councils for their generosity in support of State Charities and
our Bishops’ designated charities.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS LICENSE PLATES
Brothers, we have a great opportunity to advertise the Knights of Columbus
to everyone around us by proudly displaying our TEXAS Knights of Columbus
(ONE NATION UNDER GOD) license plate. This is also an excellent opportunity
to raise additional funds for State Charities. Recently I learned that
to date we have only sold 245 of these plates. That is incomprehensible
to me. All you have to do is take a good look at this plate up close,
and I know you’ll want one on your vehicle. The $30.00 fee is probably
the cheapest advertisement you’ll ever be able to purchase. I know
Leo will be pushing this program. Take a moment and order your plate
today!
Ladies Finish In a Big Way
I’m so proud of Linda and the other ladies who worked hard to
coordinate many different efforts in order to raise funds for retired
priests and sisters across Texas. Over the past two years, and as a result
of the generosity of countless individuals, councils, assemblies, and
circles, the State Ladies project collected over $50,150.00. You should
all be very proud of this accomplishment, which will mean a great deal
to these priests and nuns. If there are cookbooks still floating around,
or money to be turned in, please contact Linda to coordinate the turn-in.
THANKS LADIES!
As I’ve said before, the past two years have been a great experience
for Linda and me – A once in a lifetime experience! The highlight
of those two years was being able to associate with so many wonderful
folks in our councils and assemblies all across the State. Thanks to
all for your friendship and hospitality. While the State Council has
now established all new records in Membership and State Charities, we’re
looking forward to our great State reaching new levels of excellence
as we continue to show the rest of the Order that:
TEXAS IS THE BEST OF THE BEST!
May God bless all of you and your families, and may He continue to bless
Texas and the Knights of Columbus!
Please read the Statement from
our Supreme Knight in the Supreme News
section on the 31st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
As we contemplate the destruction to humanity caused by this terrible
decision, let us lift our minds and voices in prayer
that Our Lord will have mercy on these innocent lives and that He will allow
an end to the evil of abortion. Ken
Otte
